Like many of you, we’ve found ourselves navigating a heartbreaking week for our community with the death of Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero. Today brought one more unexpected change.
This morning, the Police Department informed us that our permit for tonight’s Art Walk had been revoked so that public safety resources could remain available for other community needs. While we’re disappointed, we understand the decision and appreciate the care being taken during an unusual week for our community.
As a result, tonight’s Art Walk is cancelled.
Downtown businesses, restaurants, and galleries remain open, and we hope you’ll continue to support them if you’re planning to be downtown this evening.
We’ve received thoughtful questions about why HOB and AOB are cancelling Art Walk. Although it may look like artists simply set up on sidewalks, Art Walk is an organized public event. We obtain the City’s permits so artists don’t each have to navigate that process themselves. Because that permit was revoked, we can’t hold tonight’s Art Walk.
Thank you for your understanding. We’re grateful for this community and look forward to gathering together again at next month’s Art Walk.
