posted 03/04/2025

Position Summary

Art of Biddeford (AOB), a community arts initiative of Heart of Biddeford (HOB), seeks a Program Director to lead the artistic, programmatic, and community-facing work of AOB. This role is ideal for an arts professional with curatorial vision and strong implementation skills—someone who can translate ideas into well-executed programs, meaningful artist partnerships, and clear public engagement.

The Program Director leads the planning, implementation, and visibility of AOB’s programs, including exhibitions, markets, art walks, and artist-centered initiatives. This role maintains primary ownership of artist relationships, program coordination, and AOB’s public-facing communications, while working collaboratively with HOB staff.

The Program Director also contributes to AOB’s long-term development, helping shape opportunities for expanded programming, creative infrastructure, and arts entrepreneurship—including potential future space for exhibitions, artist work, and public programs as resources and community investment allow.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Implementation
Lead the development and execution of AOB’s programs from concept through completion, ensuring they are artist-centered, well-organized, and aligned with AOB’s mission. Serve as the primary point of contact for artists and partners, and ensure programs are implemented with professionalism and care.

Artist Partnerships & Creative Ecosystem Development
Build strong relationships with artists and help increase visibility, opportunity, and pathways for creative entrepreneurship. Support an environment where artists can contribute meaningfully to civic and cultural life.

Communications & Public Engagement
Lead AOB’s social media and public-facing communications, ensuring programs and opportunities are clearly and effectively shared. Help ensure AOB maintains a visible, welcoming presence in the community, in cooperation with the Assistant Director at HOB.

Partnerships & Organizational Coordination
Cultivate partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and civic groups. Coordinate program logistics, maintain organized systems and documentation, and support grant implementation and reporting in collaboration with leadership.

Organizational Growth & Future Development
Work with HOB staff and the AOB Advisory Board to help guide AOB’s continued growth. Contribute to developing sustainable programs and supporting long-term opportunities for creative space, artist work, and expanded arts programming.

Qualifications

  • 3–7 years of experience in arts programming, curatorial practice, or arts administration
  • Experience working directly with artists and leading programs or projects
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Comfort managing timelines, communications platforms, and coordination tools
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Interest in helping build sustainable creative infrastructure and artist opportunities
  • Alignment with values of inclusion, accessibility, and community engagement
